Fernando R Elizondo, Education, 1966, Teaching Credential, 1967, retired after 41 years in education. Throughout his career Fernando served as a teacher, middle school principal, assistant superintendent and the last 15 years as a superintendent of schools. Upon retirement Fernando opened a consulting business and has remained busy volunteering on the board of trustees for Natividad Medical Center and as a docent at Point Lobos State Reserve. Fernando says he would enjoy hosting and introducing the new HSU president to HSU alumni in the central coast.

Throughout his career Fernando served as a teacher, middle school principal, assistant superintendent and the last 15 years as a superintendent of schools. Jesse Mestemacher, Industrial Technology & Business Administration, 2008, has joined Jacobs, a design, engineering, construction and technical services firm, in their Redding, California office. He brings six years of CAD experience in architectural design and manufacturing and is excited to join the building and infrastructure team. Jesse will primarily be assisting in water processing and conveyance design.

After 34 years of teaching elementary school Cynthia Glasgow-Ragus, Social Work, 1982, has retired. Her career was spent at the same school for all 34 years, the same school she attended as a child. That makes 43 years total at the same school. She is now retired and enjoying planning trips and traveling with family and friends.

Eddie Shin, Psychology, 2014, got married a year ago to the love of his life who loves doing what he loved to do most when in Humboldt, hiking and spending time outdoors! He moved to Orem, Utah shortly after graduating and in 2016 landed a job at a residential treatment center where he became their neurofeedback practitioner. It's been awesome working with these kids in improving their emotions and behaviors through a holistic intervention in their treatment! He is currently working on his master's toward becoming a marriage and family therapist. He misses the redwoods and Humboldt coast dearly and thinks about that beautiful place every day! He lives his life the Humboldt way still and stays green.

Cuauhtemoc Carboni, Kinesiology & Recreation Administration, 2001, 2004, is working as a professor at Imperial Valley College in the Exercise Science Department. Married for almost 18 years to Anna Elizabeth (they met in Arcata in 1999), they have three children. Miroslava (11), Cuauhtemoc (9) and Olenna (1). Since graduating, she has worked at a foster care agency in Los Angeles where she created a placement program for foster youth with health issues. She has also worked at a children’s hospital in Los Angeles after hours in the house and ER. She is now following her dreams by working with people of all ages and backgrounds in hospice care.

Prior to retirement she was a district operations manager for Weight Watchers International and ended her career in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. as a strategic planning and training manager for the CA Credit Union League, a trade association for credit unions in California. Happily divorced and happy to be retired with her own business!

Daniel C. Hernandez, 1984 Recreation Administration, recently announced his retirement from the field of parks, recreation, and leisure services. For the past six years he was director of Parks, Recreation, and Community Services for Culver City, Calif. After completing his bachelor’s degree, Hernandez began his fulltime career with the City of Santa Barbara Parks and Recreation Department in 1985, overseeing youth sports and special events. In 1996, while serving as Director of Community Services for the City of Carpinteria, he completed his Master’s of Public Administration at CSU Northridge. Hernandez has been a presenter and speaker at both the state and national level.

He then went on to build and lead the global sustainability program for NetApp, a Fortune 1000 company. Perrault has served as co-chair for an advisory group to the UN Global Compact, was a member of the technical working group establishing GHG accounting standards for the ICT sector under The Carbon Trust and GeSI, and co-chaired the Environment Committee for Silicon Valley Leadership Group. He has held several sustainability consulting positions, is a Sustainability Management Certified Professional (SMCP) and is currently the Sustainability Practice Lead for EnerNOC.

Stefanie Lauren Kalin, 2010 Psychology, is a licensed marriage and family therapist. She has developed her clinical experiences providing mental health services to couples, families, adults with chronic disease, severe, persistent, mental illness, adolescents, and children with chronic trauma and dependency. She specializes in mind-body connection and trauma residency with training in eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR). Stefanie met her husband, Rory, in undergrad at HSU and became Mr. and Mrs. Kalin in 2015. They returned to Humboldt in 2017 to begin careers serving Humboldt County. Stefanie will be practicing as a mental health clinician for Humboldt County Department of Health and Human Services.

She is also the site's Technology Facilitator, and recently implemented her school's first ever Coding and Robotics Club to stimulate interest in STEAM programs. Her goal is to get technology into the hands of all students, her own class has Chromebooks for all students to gain skills using Google's educational apps.

From 1977-78, she was a registered nurse at St. Joseph Hospital in Eureka, where she developed and implemented the hospital's IV Therapy protocols. She also worked as a nursing lab instructor at HSU for the 1977 and 1978 academic years. She lives on Bainbridge Island, Wash., with her husband, Ken DeWitt (‘78, Business), a mortgage banker and elected Commissioner for the Bainbridge Island Metropolitan Park & Recreation District.

Golobay’s work includes helping kids suffering from mental illness, neglect, abuse, and other difficulties get an education while also ensuring they receive support and treatment. The goal is to help students become productive members of society and remove the stigma of their mental illness.
